Kettle terms of service
Last updated 8 October 2026
The short version
- Kettle shows you train information so you can plan your journey. It comes from other sources and can be late or wrong. We tell you how sure we are.
- You decide which train to catch and which ticket to buy. For anything important, check the station boards.
- Kettle is free to use. There's an optional paid plan with extra features.
- If we let you down, we're responsible up to a limit, set out in section 7. We never limit what the law says we can't, including death or injury caused by our negligence, and fraud.
- Kettle is run by DB Five Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17480861).
The rest of this page gives the detail. By signing up or using Kettle, you agree to these terms.
1. Using Kettle
1.1 You must be 16 or over. Kettle is for your own personal use, not for a business.
1.2 You sign in with your email address and a code we send you. Keep your email account secure. If you think someone else has got into your Kettle account, tell us straight away.
1.3 Please don't misuse Kettle. That means no attempts to break it, overload it, copy its data in bulk or resell it.
2. Train information
2.1 Kettle shows train times, platforms, disruption and other travel information. Most of it comes from other organisations, including National Rail (through its Darwin data feed) and Transport for London. We show it as we receive it.
2.2 Some things are our own estimates, such as a likely platform or how long a journey will take. We label every item as confirmed, expected or estimated. An estimate is not a promise.
2.3 Information can be late, incomplete or wrong, and it can change at any time. We don't guarantee it's accurate or up to date. For anything that matters, check the station displays and what the train company is saying.
2.4 Kettle is independent. It isn't run by, or endorsed by, National Rail or any train company. Train information is powered by National Rail Enquiries.
3. Your decisions
3.1 Kettle is a planning tool. You decide which train to take, when to leave and what ticket to buy.
3.2 We don't sell tickets. The ticket you hold, and its conditions, are what count, not what Kettle shows. If Kettle reminds you about a ticket, that's a convenience. It doesn't replace checking your ticket is valid before you travel.
3.3 Delay Repay claims are made by you to the train company, and they decide them. Kettle helps you work out and prepare a claim. We can't promise a delay qualifies, that a claim will be accepted or how much you'll get.
4. Free and paid
4.1 The free version of Kettle is free. The paid plan unlocks extra features. We show the price and what you get before you pay.
4.2 Kettle Premium is monthly or yearly and renews automatically until you cancel. New subscribers get a 7-day free trial; if you don't cancel before it ends, the first payment is taken then. On the App Store, Apple takes the payment and its rules apply. On the web, Stripe takes the payment and RevenueCat manages the subscription for us.
4.3 If we change the price, we'll tell you before it applies to you, and you can cancel first.
5. Cancelling and refunds
5.1 You can cancel your paid plan at any time. You keep the paid features until the end of the period you've paid for. On the web, cancel from You → Kettle Premium → Manage subscription, or the link in your receipt email.
5.2 If you subscribe on the web, you can cancel within 14 days of subscribing and get a refund. If you asked us to start straight away, we'll keep a fair amount for what you've used. If you subscribe through the App Store, refunds are handled by Apple under its rules.
5.3 This doesn't affect your legal rights. If the paid features aren't as described or don't work properly, you may be entitled to a repair, refund or price reduction.
6. Your data
Our privacy policy explains what we collect, why and how to delete your account and data. You'll find it at sign-up, on kettletrains.com and in the app under You.
7. Where we're responsible
7.1 What we never limit. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our responsibility for:
- death or personal injury caused by our negligence;
- fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;
- your legal rights as a consumer, including that digital content must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described; or
- anything else the law says we can't limit.
7.2 The limit. Apart from those things, the most we'll owe you for anything to do with Kettle is the greater of: what you paid us in the 12 months before the problem, and £10. This applies however the claim arises, including negligence.
7.3 Losses we don't cover. Apart from the things in 7.1, we're not responsible for:
- losses we couldn't reasonably have foreseen when you started using Kettle;
- indirect or knock-on losses;
- lost profit, income or business, because Kettle is for personal use; or
- costs caused by delays, cancellations, missed connections or tickets that stop being usable, where the cause is the train service or other people's information rather than something we did wrong.
7.4 Other people's services. Kettle depends on services we don't control, such as train companies, National Rail, TfL, Apple, payment providers and mobile networks. We're not responsible for them, or for Kettle being unavailable because of them.
8. Keeping Kettle running, and ending your account
8.1 We aim to keep Kettle running, but we can't promise it'll never go down or have faults. We may change, pause or remove features. If we remove something you've paid for, we'll tell you and deal with it fairly.
8.2 You can delete your account at any time in the app, under You.
8.3 We can suspend or close an account if someone breaks these terms or misuses Kettle. We'll tell you why, unless the law stops us.
9. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app or by email before the change applies. If you don't agree, you can stop using Kettle and cancel any paid plan.
10. The law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also use your local courts.
